![]() That is strange as I’ve experienced the opposite, the Ableton plugs are much easier on my cpu but I still go with fab filter stuff I was also interested if others had seen similar results with other 3rd party plugins vs native ableton equivalents. These results will probably mean I stick to what I know (from Cubase days) and use the Fabfilter. I'm not having a dig at Ableton with this, just surprised me, and I was about to go ahead and keep using EQ8 in all my projects. This seems to add a 1% load but does no impact the overall results when you are looking at multiple instances. One instance will always be visible, to emulate the EQ8 which will only be displaying one instance. Not too sure what you mean my 'do your ProQ instances are displayed?". I retested the 128 tracks with the EQ8 spectogram off, and it made no difference, same CPU Oversampling was not on. So, I tried to compare apples with apples.or should that be granny smiths with golden dillicious - EQ8 was set up with 8 bands, a 4x cut in the bottom and adjustment on every band (exactly the same was done for Fabfilter Q2.or as close as I could get) What has been the experience from others in this regards.this surprised me. This has got me rethinking my logic on trying to use only native Fx/instruments to keep cpu usage down. 1st column is cpu with no fx, then with native EQ, then with Fabfilter. Test was with an Audio track with one wav loop playing in the track (from 1-128 tracks duplicated). TracksĚudio onlyĚudio/Native EQ Audio/Fabfilter Q2ğabfilter vs Native EQ My results are below, seem to indicate that Fabfilter Q2 is around 50% more efficient (taking the higher instances as more accurate a measure): I had assumed that the native EQ would be lower cpu usage, with the general assumption that native Ableton fx and instruments will be generally lower (since they were developed only for Ableton). I have recently committed to working only in Live (after being a 24 year veteran of Cubase), to align with my drive to perfecting my live gigs. I swear I don't work for Image Line, haha.I just did a quick test on the cpu load of Ableton EQ vs Fabfilter Q2. This probably comes off as a massive advert for FL Studio, but that's just how I personally feel about the program. ![]() They even blatantly propagate the myth that their mixer "sounds better" than any other DAW in a promotional video for 9.5. I haven't looked at what they've added in Cubase 9.5, but Cubase 9 addressed basically none of the long standing complaints about Cubase 8. Steinberg, on the other hand, really put me off. They are very engaged with their user base overall through their official forums, and they are continuously pumping out improvements to their software, both feature-wise and under-the-hood performance optimizations. But FL has some advantages over Cubase as well, like automation clips.Īudio Quality: The myth that audio quality varies per DAW has been thoroughly debunked.Ĭompany: Image Line is a company that I feel great about supporting. The only areas I can think of where Cubase gets a slight edge is in the ease of sidechaining to VST plugins and adding post-fader insert FX. Mixing & Mastering: FL Studio doesn't have any major limitations here. But it's totally doable, and Image Line are continuously improving this area with updates. Recording Vocals and Live Instruments: Admittedly, FL Studio still doesn't have the greatest audio recording workflow. And, if you're lacking music theory knowledge, and you really need some extra help making chord progressions, you can always grab Cthulhu for forty bucks, which probably destroys Cubase's Chord Tracks anyway. Its Piano Roll is widely acclaimed as one of the best MIDI editors in any DAW. MIDI Composition: FL is great for MIDI composition.
